Just a few days ago some folks caught a glimpse of some great lighting effects turned on at the construction site for Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Universal's Islands of Adventure. Turns out they were filming some promotional videos to help explain what this new attraction will be all about, as well as grab some amazing photographs. Universal also confirmed that this will be "one of the longest rides of any Universal attraction", and it feature "several new firsts for Universal Orlando Resort." This attraction is scheduled to open Summer of this year. See the full ride description, new videos, and more news about the viral marketing campaign they started earlier this month called Myth Explorers: The Quest for Kong, all below. And stay tuned for more Kong news!
Story of Skull Island
You find yourself at a campsite of the 8th Wonder Expedition Company, the research team leading your adventure.
Once beyond camp, the menacing terrain shows signs of a native presence; beating drums draw you toward an ancient temple. Moving deeper into the ruins reveals a lost shrine — and proof you are not alone. You ignore warnings to turn back.
You board a specially designed expedition vehicle that will take you deeper into the island. Mysterious sounds pierce the air and you hear chanting. And then you confront an enormous temple wall, complete with carvings and images that seem to pay homage to something you cannot quite comprehend. The temple’s massive wooden doors slowly open, revealing a labyrinth of caves.
Inside the caves, you meet your expedition leader — and suddenly find yourself in the midst of a raging struggle between creatures of incomprehensible size and ferocity. Then, as those creatures turn on you, there is an even more enormous, earth-pounding presence — bigger, closer and more overwhelming than you can possibly imagine. It is Kong. But is he friend or foe?
Myth Explorers: The Quest for Kong
Earlier this month Universal launched a new viral marketing website and web-series entitled Myth Explorers: The Quest for Kong. The series stars Erin Ryder (Destination Truth on Syfy and Chasing UFOs on National Geographic) and her crew as they "brave an island that doesn’t appear on any official map—a rocky, skull-shaped jungle in the Indian Ocean where the story of King Kong originated." The series has already posted two videos. The first is a sneak peak/overview and the second if the first full episode. Four more full episodes are expected. You can sign up for updates and watch more videos on the Myth Explorers official website.
